The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a new Real Estate Assessor to lead the organization into the future. The Assessor oversees a 34-member department that is accountable to the citizens of Virginia Beach for the responsible assessment of residential and commercial property. This large and diverse City is comprised of 157,000 parcels of taxable real estate valued at $55 billion; 143,000 homes; and 33,000 acres of agriculture land, forest and wetlands. The position reports directly to the 11-member City Council. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or a similar program and 6 years management experience. Higher-level education and experience equivalent to 12 years in fields listed above, including 5 years at the program management or administrator level may also qualify. Other preferred qualifications include a Certified General Appraiser License or comparable certification, accreditation by the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) and any assessment designations such as CAE, RES, or AAS.
