The Senior Commercial Appraisal Analyst position is designed for licensed commercial appraisal review employees that: leverage and contribute knowledge gained from their licensed commercial appraisal experience and courses towards reviewing or developing an opinion of value for complex and/or larger-dollar improved commercial real estate and vacant land secured transactions, have demonstrated strong customer service skills enabling them to positively represent the bank when completing appraisal reports, exhibit initiative toward improving department processes and mitigating risk on a consistent basis, exhibit mentoring skills for junior licensed and non-licensed appraisal staff, and establish themselves as a Subject Matter Expert for other department employees, bank officers, loan support staff, commercial appraiser vendors and property contacts.
• Complete timely and efficient commercial real property and business collateral valuation report reviews and secondary report reviews. • Ensuring commercial appraisal reports comply with bank policy and regulatory requirements. • Act as a support for branch loan officers, loan support staff, and other loan operations staff for complex and non-complex commercial real estate, vacant land and business-related valuation related questions. • Maintain a strong knowledge of the company’s commercial real estate, residential real estate and business collateral valuation report and review requirements, in relation to federal appraisal regulations and Small Business Administration requirements when applicable, to ensure accurate collateral valuation report reviews while supporting the bank’s loan origination functions. • Complete commercial real property collateral valuation reports and property income financial analysis reports as required. • Manage and complete projects to improve commercial collateral valuation-related processes and procedures, including evaluating new collateral valuation products, vendors, and review procedures. • Clearly and professionally communicate with vendors, branch loan officers, loan support staff and other centralized staff to address questions and communicate expectations related to commercial and business appraisal ordering and review requirements. • Mentor and train new or inexperienced review team members, enhancing the overall performance and service the department provides the company and supporting a path for employees to obtain an appraisal license and/or higher license/certification status. • Train and provide support to: Management Trainees, bank loan officers and loan support staff on commercial and business appraisal report development and review requirements. • Complete all assigned tasks within defined FirstBank Valuation Services core hours while operating in a high paced environment, multi-tasking to manage ongoing workload and consistently meeting specified deadlines. • Meet assigned Service Level Objective performance goals and appraisal compliance expectations, while processing a volume of reports representative of their review limit and department goals. • Assist and provide feedback on commercial and business appraisal ordering and report workflow tracking procedures. • Attend real estate and business valuation appraisal courses and seminars to continually advance appraisal policies and procedures knowledge and to maintain the licensed appraiser status as required by state licensing entities. • Perform other duties and projects as assigned • Understand and comply with all provisions of the Safety in the Workplace
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OF POSITION • An active Certified General Appraisal License, issued through the State of Colorado and in good standing. An active license in good standing through another state may be considered if the applicant is willing and able to obtain a Colorado license. • Five (5) years’ real estate appraisal report development and/or review experience, including at least three (3) years with a Certified license status. Time spent in a FirstBank internal appraisal training program can be applied toward this requirement. • Commercial real estate appraisal development and/or review experience • Bachelor’s Degree in Real Estate, Business, or Economics • A combination of post-high school education, job related certification, and related experience equivalent to seven (7) years may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS OF POSITION Preferably, employees working in this position would have five to ten years of experience as a licensed appraiser, demonstrating competency in valuing higher-dollar and complex commercial real estate transactions based on consistent requirements as outlined by state licensing authorities. It is preferred that employees working in this position also have an MAI or equivalent real estate appraisal designation, or be on the path to obtain a similar real estate designation. Higher appraisal certification levels may also justify additional salary compensation.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Senior Commercial Appraisal Analysts are expected to have several years of experience completing and/or reviewing commercial real estate appraisal reports, a thorough understanding of industry standards (USPAP) for appraisal report development, an understanding of business appraisal report development methodology and consistently demonstrate strong attention to detail skills. Senior Commercial Appraisal Analysts are also expected to work independently and leverage their industry and bank policy knowledge to make independent decisions related to appraisal report reviews. Appraisal review staff are not permitted to work for other valuation services companies, including working under their own employment, or conduct appraisal work or valuations outside of employment with FirstBank as this is considered a conflict of interest. Conducting appraisal work or valuations on behalf of FirstBank is acceptable.
