The Lead Assessor plays a crucial role in the AABB Accreditation Program to evaluate facility conformance to the quality management systems and operational standards.
Essential Job Duties:
Lead Assessments: Conduct and oversee evaluations of facilities, both domestic and international, to ensure compliance with AABB standards.
Communication: Coordinate with Accreditation and Quality staff and volunteer assessors for timely completion of assessments.
Process Improvement: Continuously provide feedback to enhance the accreditation process.
Mentorship and Training: Mentor volunteer assessors and participate in the delivery of training programs.
Regulatory Knowledge: Stay current with AABB Standards, CAP, CLIA, FDA regulations, and issues related to blood banking, transfusion medicine, patient blood management, biotherapies, and relationship testing.
Resource Management: Serve as a manager and resource for volunteer assessors, providing program support and guidance.
Education and Advocacy: Educate facilities about AABB standards and the benefits of AABB membership.
Education and Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or a related discipline.
Certification: SBB (ASCP) preferred; CQA (ASQ) preferred; required within one year of hire.
Documents necessary for international travel.
Experience:
Three or more years of recent auditing/assessment experience.
Three or more years in cellular therapies, blood center operations, or transfusion service operations,.
Minimum of two years of personnel management experience (managing assessors).
Experience in cellular therapy activities is highly desirable.
Skills and Attributes:
Auditing Expertise: In-depth knowledge of auditing principles applicable to blood manufacturing, transfusion medicine, and/or cellular therapy.
Quality Management: Strong understanding of quality management systems.
Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Communication: Strong written and oral communication skills.
Leadership: Ability to direct, supervise, and coach assessment team members effectively.
Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of AABB Standards, FDA,OSHA, CLIA, and other relevant regulations.
Training Ability: Ability to present educational programs and train assessors.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires sitting (60%), standing (15%), and walking (25%). Additional physical requirements are as follows:
Requires lifting materials of approximately 25-50 lbs.
Often requires computer usage which involves extensive use of keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
Work Environment/Conditions:
Dayshift hours primarily
Travel (domestic and international) 85-90% of the time, sometimes on short notice as needed. Travel and other work-related assignments on weekends are possible.
Travel to Annual Meeting required
For this role the anticipated hiring base compensation range is $100,000.00 - $114,400.00 USD annually.
